Plavix is an effective drug given for the preventing blood clots after a heart attack. The drug is also given to persons with certain disorders of the blood vessels.
The drug has to be taken with food or in empty stomach. Plavix should have to be taken with a full glass of water. Once you are prescribed Plavix, never deviate from the prescription. Do not take larger doses or take the drug for longer periods as they only increase the risk of side effects.
Always take the right doses at the right time. In case you miss a dose, take it once you realise it. But never go for any overdose.
If you are having a history of stroke, liver/kidney problems and haemophilia, the doctor may not prescribed Plavix or he may lower the dosages. Though it is not known if Plavix will affect the foetus, you should never use the drug without consulting the doctor if you are pregnant. Though the drug is not known to pass into breast milk, it is advised that breast-feeding mothers should have to consult the doctor before taking the drug while feeding.
Doctors do not prescribe Plavix if you are allergic to clopidogrel. The surgeon may also stop the drug before any surgery.
While you are on Plavix medication, never miss the appointments and the lab tests, as regular blood check is needed.
If you are taking aspirin or any other NSAIDs, then you will not be prescribed Plavix. Alcohol should be avoided as it only increases the risk of stomach or intestinal bleeding.
